Camp Eureka Enrichment and Learning

Prepare for the Adventure of a lifetime! Here it is - the best of Camp Eureka's workshops! The children have spoken and we have listened. Camp Eureka 2008 has brought back favorites like Brain Zone, Theatre and Robotics and we've added new courses to delight the interest of each child joining us for the first time or coming back for another outstanding summer with us. Our Program is divided into 2 groups: Eureka Stars (Kinder - 3rd Grade) Eureka Leaders (4th - 8th Grade) All children will be grouped by their grade level and follow a special and fun-filled day of workshops and activities as shown below: There is a maximum of 12 students per group.

Eureka Stars: Kinder - 3rd

Workshop Descriptions (Please note that 3rd graders have a slightly different schedule that recognizes their abilities) Outdoor Adventures - Fitness through fun is the philosophy of this workshop! Our dynamic and certified P.E. teacher has created a high-energy outdoor fun workshop that will have children running, laughing and enjoying old-fashioned and modern outdoor games in a non-competitive environment! Popular games that will certainly delight our campers include: Ultimate Frisbee, Human Monopoly, Catch the Shark and many more delightful outdoor games! Station Imagination - This workshop gives young children the opportunity to travel to 3 different stations whereby they explore and experiment at their own pace. The stations include:

• Blocks, trains, and building fun - Thomas the Engine, Building Blocks, Tinker Toys, and Lincoln Logs and Lego Blocks come to life as young children use their building skills to create towers, cities, schools and anything else they aspire to make!
• Fun with sand - Our campers take extreme delight in Sifting, packing, pouring and digging their little hands into sand in our Eureka Sand Box!
• Pretend and Play - Our dress up box and pretend corner will have kids using their imagination as they create their own fantasy world of fun and adventure.

Hands-On Fun - This workshop is for the artist who loves to paint, draw, mix, and create. Children especially love designing their own refrigerator box house! Each day a special art project awaits that is sure to excite our campers. Fine motor skills are also developed in this workshop as children practice cutting, pasting, drawing and exploring their creative side! Campers can look forward to rolling up their sleeves and creating something new and exciting each day. This is a hands-on workshop where campers will explore by doing and seeing. Special projects include:

• Make Your Own Play Dough
• Make Your Own Bubble Solution
• Cooking without Heat
• Homemade Kite (chiringa hecho a mano)
• Optical illusion poster
• Refrigerator box house
• And many more really cool projects!

Story Time - Every concerned parent understands the need to keep children reading and learning in the summer. This workshop magically weaves reading in a fun and entertaining light. You�ll be amazed when you're child tells you how much they love Story Time! Each day, children will walk to our library next door and enjoy a story that will be read aloud to them by their teacher. This workshop keeps the children building very important language arts skills in a fun way! Don't be surprised if you catch your child reading a story at home - they usually ask us to borrow one of our many wonderful books!

Game Zone - By far this is one of our most popular workshops with all of our campers. In this workshop, campers enjoy playing board games and traditional games brought back to life by our staff. Favorites include: Cat's Cradle, Chutes n Ladders, Memory, Cherry Ho, Candy Land, Silly Dice, My First Uno, and many other camper favorites! In addition, they love the puzzles and riddle challenges brought to them each day by our dynamic camp teacher.

Bodies in Motion - Young bodies can't stay still and we at Camp Eureka don't want them to! Our campers have all the freedom to "shake, rattle, and roll" in this fun and silly workshop of singing, dancing, jumping, moving, and grooving! Popular songs, games, and dances are brought to life in this zany workshop where kids will do the Boogie, Woogie, dance the Macarena and Electric Slide, Hokie Pokie, Musical Chairs, and of course, Limbo, Limbo!

Number Soup - Campers will have fun exploring and playing numbers games that keep them practicing essential number skills so they don't get too rusty over the summer. Songs and number games are at the heart of this workshop.

Computers - Embedded into the month is also computer time. Our young campers will have the opportunity to use our state of the art computers at a modified pace. We will work basic typing skills and enjoy educational games that improve English skills.

Workshop Descriptions

Brain Zone - Brain Zone is back and it's better than ever. This continues to be a favorite with our campers! We've incorporated new games and have kept the popular ones. Young people love to play games and share with each other, therefore, this workshop brings together playing and hanging out. Campers will explore the fascinating games of Mancala, Chinese Checkers, Asian solitaire, Pente, Othello, Yahtzee, Sudoku, Monopoly, UNO, Skip Bo, Dice, and many other fast paced games. In addition, campers will love the Optical Illusion Segment and the Brain Teaser Opener that are sure to thrill them! Also new this year is the Brain Zone Tournament of Staff vs. Campers!

Computer Wizard - Our Computer Wizard workshop uses state of the art computers to bring together an amazing month of technology. Campers will be thrilled to be working on the coolest application found with iMovie, iPhoto, iPod madness, iComic, and Garage Band. They will have fun working on a special project for their parents and will marvel over the movie and zany slide show they create with music and special effects!

Robotics - Can you make a robot do the boogie dance or build a Mars rover to explore the Red Planet or explore the deep blue ocean with your own robotic submarine? Every week, 4th to 8th grade students will be able to solve various challenges that will combine math, science, computers and FUN! Robotics is a great way to entice kids to think like scientists and engineers, provides a fun, creative, hands-on learning experience, teaches kids to experiment and overcome obstacles & builds their self-esteem and confidence.

Theatre for Kids - Whether your child loves the spotlight or hides from it, this workshop will easily become a favorite with him/her. In this workshop campers will laugh their way through fun theatre exercises and techniques that make them comfortable about themselves and their ability to stand before a group. They will learn popular and fun theatre games used by the pros and each group will prepare a special show to be presented during the Camp Eureka Gala! Parents are invited to attend!

Destination Imagination - Can you build a working aqueduct with only plastic cups, some tin foil, paper and tape? Let your imagination soar as you work with your other team member to design solutions to different, fun challenges. This is a truly high-energy workshop that teaches students teamwork, problem solving skills, and leadership development. Campers work in teams to solve hilarious and fascinating problems using only what they find inside a special box we give them. Each project has a different problem to solve with different materials to use. This has been a popular workshop with past campers and now is better than ever. Crazy Creations - Teens and pre-teens love the opportunity to create with their own hands. In this workshop we travel from the kitchen to the classroom as campers create different recipes and projects each day. Kitchen chemistry blends with Arts and Crafts to create an "explosive" recipe for fun, laughter, and maybe even tasty delights! You just never know what you're going to take home from Crazy Creations but you can count on taking a smile and a giggle!

Outdoor Adventures - Move your body and have a good time while playing Human Monopoly, Noodle Tag, Kickball, Ultimate Frisbee, Who did it, and other hilarious games that keep you fit and happy! Each day will have a new game that campers are sure to love. In addition, each year's staff has been known to bring in a special talent such as Double Dutch jump rope, Jazz Mania, Tap Dancing, Cheerleading, etc. You just never know what talents and surprises our staff has up their sleeve. Come and find out! Oh, and be sure not to miss our weekly staff vs. campers tournaments in baseball, kickball, water balloon relays, and whatever other competitions our campers decide to suggest!
